Winter is coming, the nights are getting dark early and everyone is turning up the heating.

This is the time of year we start to get more and more calls for boiler break downs.

Boilers are not like cars as there is no legal obligation to have them MOT’d or serviced, but we do find a very high percentage of boiler break downs we go to are the ones that haven’t been serviced for years. A simple boiler service and the fitting of a magna cleanse type system will filter out the nasty sludge that builds up in the heating system.

Once this sludge reaches the boiler it can block parts inside the boiler like the heat exchanger which can be costly to repair. Sludge builds up in the heating system by means of corrosion to the inside of radiators. Flow around the system can become restricted or you will notice parts of the house not warming up or radiators only heating up to lukewarm and not getting to a good temperature to warm the intended area.

If you are suffering any of these symptoms we advise seeking professional advice from a qualified Gas safe heating engineer.

If a power flush of the system is advised it can take a couple or hours or up to a full day, some heating engineers will go around the radiators with a mechanical hammer like devise to be sure the sludge is given a little hand to move around the system. Radiator installation in Faversham, Kent

We were called to a site to install designer radiators in faversham. We first attended to measure the size of the living room to get the correct amount of heat out put from the radiators to suit the living room. After the calculation was complete it was found that 4000 btu was required to heat the room so two designer radiators were ordered. Once the radiators were delivered we re-attended to install the radiators. The system was on a combination boiler. The heating was drained down and the radiators were hung and piped up the system was then re filled to test. The heating was turned on to test the boiler and was found to be working correctly.

Once all tests we’re complete the system was then drained again to add the inhibitor to help protect the system.

Water leak fixed in Faversham Kent

We was called out out of hours due to a burst pipe in faversham. The customer needed emergency repair work. On arrival we could here the leak was major and under a concealed floor. Access was then cut in the chipboard flooring to access the pipe work this was in the hallway so access to the front door would of been dangerous if this leak was not rectified quickly. After the pipe work was exposed we then discovered the pipe work was made of lead repairing lead is a different procedure to copper. The customer was advised to replace the whole water supply pipe as the material was lead drinking water can now not pass through lead and the material is weak due to the age. The customer opted not to replace the pipe so a one meter repair was carried out to stop the leak the was done with two 15mm – 21mm universal transition couplings and a one meter section of blue upvc water supply pipe. This was then tested and the water was turned on and the water that was lost was cleaned up and floor board was re instated so access to the front door was easy and safe.
